This is a digital item! You will receive a link to download a PDF file with the pattern. You will not receive a physical hat, or a physical printed copy of the pattern.
This condensed version of the crochet pattern is intended for printing or quick reference. The extended version with step by step photos and tips is available at https://www.margaretmakesthings.com/blog/free-crochet-pattern-grizzly-peak-beanie
The Grizzly Peak Beanie is a delightfully chunky ribbed beanie in a classic silhouette. The finished hat measures 12" long and 18" in circumference, and is intended to be worn with a cuff folded up. The hat will be stretchy, and should fit most adults comfortably.
Gauge is (11 rows = 4”) and (10.5 stitches = 4”) with a suggested 8.0 mm crochet hook. Pattern for gauge swatch is alternating rows of 14 sts yoslst blo and 14 sts in sc blo. However, this pattern works up relatively quickly so in lieu of a gauge swatch you can make the first segment and then measure the project.
Yarn – about 150 yards of a chunky/bulky weight yarn. Suggested yarn is Malabrigo Chunky. If using this yarn, you’ll need about 1.5 skeins.
Stitches used –(in US crochet terms) ch, sc, yarn over slip stitch.
Construction – The hat is worked in a single flat piece and then joined with a sc and mattress stitch seam. The rows run vertically (so the foundation chain determines the length, and the hat grows width-wise as it works up). The crown is shaped using short rows.
